Detroit Lakes heads to the postseason winners of 13 consecutive duals after a big win at Frazee 51-16 to wrap up the regular season Thursday, Feb. 6 in the Hornet gym.
DL opened with four straight wins, three by fall, to lead 21-0 out of the gate.
Bryant Hazelton (106) pinned Cade Nagel in the second period. Tyson Ullyott (113) followed up with a 63-second stick of Bailey Peichel.
No. 8AA 120-pounder Cade Okeson defeated Christian Carlson by decision 5-1 and Carson Wold added a second period pin over Lukas Volstad for a comfortable Laker lead.
Seth Isola picked up Frazee’s first win of the night scoring on a late takedown to edge Cade Jackson by decision 3-2.

No. 8AA 132-pounder Blake Weber wrestled up at 138 and trailed 1-0 heading into the third period against Frazee’s Kaden Hiemenz. Weber scored three points in the final two minutes to win by decision 3-1.
No. 5AA 138-pounder Brody Ullyott wrestled up at 145 and recorded the fastest pin of the night pinning Frazee’s Derek Zitzow at the 59-second mark for a 30-3 DL advantage.

Thad Schlauderaff led 2-1 after one and defeated Frazee 152-pounder Mason Newling 4-1.
Danny Graham recorded the Hornets’ only pin of the night defeating DL’s Hunter Jorgenson late in the third period by fall.
Frazee was still mathematically in the match trailing 33-9 with five matches remaining, but DL’s Blaine Henderson took care of that quickly pinning Caleb DeGroat at 2:21 of the 170-pound match to put Frazee away.
The Hornets ranked wrestlers both picked up wins.

Frazee’s No. 3A-ranked, 182-pounder Brett Graham defeated Nolan Mann by major decision 9-1.
No. 2A Luke Tweeton defeated DL’s No. 10AA Jordan Skadsem with a late escape and takedown to break open a 2-2 tie for a 5-2 decision at 220 pounds.
At 195, DL’s Andrew Annette pinned Byron Kropuenske at 4:40.
At heavyweight, the Lakers; Andreas Barnett won by fall over Wesley Kropuenske in 2:29.

Frazee finished the regular season just outside the top 12 in Class A. No Section 8 teams are ranked in the state with defending champions Badger/Greenbush-Middle River joining the Hornets just outside The Guillotine’s top dozen .
Detroit Lakes picked up its 20th dual victory of the season against only six losses. The Lakers will be the top-seeded team in the west half of the Section 8AA team tournament. DL hosts the quarterfinal round Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. The bracket seeds will be announced later this week. Perham hosts the semifinals and finals Friday, Feb. 14 at The Hive beginning at 6 p.m.

The Lakers are looking for a first trip back to the state tournament since back-to-back runs in 2004-05. Perham is the five-time defending 8AA champions and have won the section seven of the last eight years. The last team to represent 8AA at state besides the Yellowjackets was Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus in 2014.
