Wrestling: Lakers compete at Mid-State Conference duals

Moen, Somdahl and Ruhl shine in win over Park Rapids

The Detroit Lakes wrestling team went to Staples-Motley for the Mid-State Conference duals on Friday afternoon.

The Lakers picked up a 56-21 win over Park Rapids behind early decision wins from Beau Somdahl (113) and Zach Ruhl (132). Somdahl beat Aiden Maanum 6-1 before Ruhl beat Jarret Galzki 10-6.

Following Ruhl’s win, the Lakers won the next seven matches by forfeit. Bradly Swiers, Tyson Ullyott, Cade Okeson, Cale Abraham, Cade Jackson, Brock Billett and Connor Zamo all earned six points for Detroit Lakes. Jeffrey Moen capped off the win for Detroit Lakes at 285-pounds with a pin over D’Andre Johnson in 1:09.

According to The Guillotine, the Lakers dropped a match against Aitkin by a score of 42-24. No results from other matches were posted. The Lakers head to Crookston on Friday for a triangular against the Pirates and West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville.
