Lakers split squad third at Malecek duals

The Detroit Lakes Red split wrestling squad won seven of eight matches to place third at the Malecek team duals in Wisconsin Thursday, June 28.

The Malecek wrestling camp is one of the largest wrestling camps in the country featuring more than 900 athletes and coaches. DL was the defending champion after capturing the team title in 2017.

The Red team defeated Hortonville 52-6, West Carroll 48-18, Thunderbird Red 43-24, Glenbard East 30-30, Wausau West 36-27, Holmen 33-21 in the quarterfinals, lost to St. Charles 39-28 in the semis, and claimed third place with a 46-18 victory over Mahtomedi.


Fabyon Greer was undefeated in six matches at 138 pounds. At 182, Noah Olds was 5-0 and matched that mark wrestling at 195 pounds. Cade Jackson went 5-1 at 106. Jordan Skadsem was 5-1 at 195 and 220. Andrew Annette won four of five at 195 and 220 pounds. Brennen Sather won four of six matches at 160, 170 and 182 pounds.

The DL White team went 3-5 to place 24th.
