No. 9AA Detroit Lakes lost a wrestling dual for only the second time this season to the same team that got them last weekend - the No. 3AA Perham Yellowjackets.

Perham improved to an impressive 23-1 overall record in a 39-18 victory at The Hive gymnasium at Perham high school Thursday, Jan. 17.

The Jackets opened with a 9-0 lead taking the 106-pound match by way of a quick Aaron Lorentz pin and Blaze Brady followed up with an 8-5 decision over Cade Jackson.

Bradly Swiers put DL on the board scoring on a late takedown to defeat Blake Lorentz 4-2. Brody Ullyott blanked Perham’s Gabe Bellefeuille 3-0 and the Lakers trailed 9-6.

The teams split matches at 132 and 138. No. 9AA-132 pounder Leighton Rach defeated DL’s No. 6AA-132 pounder Blake Weber 6-2 in a big matchup of ranked wrestlers.

No. 5AA Fabyon Greer of Detroit Lakes defeated Coltan Satter 6-5 at 138 to close back within three points 12-9.

The next four matches were split ending up 12 points for Perham and nine for DL.

Jack Fudge pinned DL’s Thad Schlauderaff early in the third period and the Lakers were open at 152.

Brennen Sather won a tight decision 3-2 over Perham’s Matthew Bush at 160 and defending state champion Isaiah Thompson, ranked No. 2 at 170, pinned Brian Ramos in the second period.

Perham led 24-18 heading into matches that feature two of their best wrestlers.

DL’s Jordan Skadsem hung around allowing only a 9-3 decision to Perham’s top ranked 195-pounder in Class AA Ty Moser. No. 3AA Dawson Kellogg clinched the dual victory with a second period pin of Andrew Annette at 220.

The heavyweights gave the crowd their money’s worth in a match that went the distance. Perham’s Rowdie Lindquist outlasted the Lakers’ Andreas Barnett 2-1 in overtime for the 39-18 final.

Detroit Lakes dropped to 11-2 in dual matches. Perham defeated DL 36-21 at last weekend’s Rick Lee duals. The Lakers return to action in tournament format at Thief River Falls Saturday, Jan. 19.
