While Isaiah Thompson reached the semifinals on his bid for two straight state championships, the six other Laker wrestlers struggled on day one of the Minnesota Class AA individual state tournament at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Friday, March 1.

"It's a completely different experience down there," senior Charles Barnett said. "Everybody wrestles at such a high level. The experience of being down there surrounded by like 3,000 people, it's one of the coolest thing ever. It was absolutely intimidating to have that many eyes on you but it was exhilarating."

All six lost their first round matches and only half of the group got to wrestlebacks.

Heavyweights Chad Maddock (Redwood River Valley) and DL’s Charles Barnett started off with a nine-point first period with Barnett leading 5-4.
