Thad Schlauderaff led 2-1 after one and defeated Frazee 152-pounder Mason Newling 4-1.
Danny Graham recorded the Hornets’ only pin of the night defeating DL’s Hunter Jorgenson late in the third period by fall.
Frazee was still mathematically in the match trailing 33-9 with five matches remaining, but DL’s Blaine Henderson took care of that quickly pinning Caleb DeGroat at 2:21 of the 170-pound match to put Frazee away.
The Hornets ranked wrestlers both picked up wins.
Frazee’s No. 3A-ranked, 182-pounder Brett Graham defeated Nolan Mann by major decision 9-1.
No. 2A Luke Tweeton defeated DL’s No. 10AA Jordan Skadsem with a late escape and takedown to break open a 2-2 tie for a 5-2 decision at 220 pounds.
At 195, DL’s Andrew Annette pinned Byron Kropuenske at 4:40.
At heavyweight, the Lakers; Andreas Barnett won by fall over Wesley Kropuenske in 2:29.
Frazee finished the regular season just outside the top 12 in Class A. No Section 8 teams are ranked in the state with defending champions Badger/Greenbush-Middle River joining the Hornets just outside The Guillotine’s top dozen.
Detroit Lakes picked up its 20th dual victory of the season against only six losses. The Lakers will be the top-seeded team in the west half of the Section 8AA team tournament. DL hosts the quarterfinal round Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. The bracket seeds will be announced later this week. Perham hosts the semifinals and finals Friday, Feb. 14 at The Hive beginning at 6 p.m.
The Lakers are looking for a first trip back to the state tournament since back-to-back runs in 2004-05. Perham is the five-time defending 8AA champions and have won the section seven of the last eight years. The last team to represent 8AA at state besides the Yellowjackets was Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus in 2014.
