Justin and Jayme Clark and their kids helped Habitat for Humanity board members (and their kids) break ground on the Clarks’ new home Monday evening. The Clarks were the recipients of a new Habitat for Humanity house that has been constructed by Detroit Lakes High School building trades students over the winter, but must help Habitat board members complete the work on the basement, garage and landscaping. New Ulm-based musician Dick Kimmel and the Detroit Lakes area’s own Pamela Longtine will perform together when Kimmel presents his program on ‘The History of Bluegrass’ this Friday, April 15 at the Becker County Historical Society & Museum in Detroit Lakes. There will be a 6:30 p.m. social hour followed by the concert at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the museum for $15 each, which includes refreshments and light appetizers from La Barista. Longtime Detroit Lakes resident Jim Ramstad was honored by his fellow members of the DL Noon Rotary Club at their regular meeting last Thursday, where Mayor Matt Brenk proclaimed Friday, April 1 as Jim Ramstad Day in Detroit Lakes. Longtime Detroit Lakes resident Ron Bratlie will step down as superintendent of the Cromwell-Wright School District on June 30, ending a 50-year career in education that has included stints as superintendent at Lake Park-Audubon and principal at Twin Valley. Former Friends of Tamarac President Ron Jenson says that receiving the Silver Eagle Award from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service last summer was “one of two major events in my life.” He stepped down from the Tamarac board after nine years, but will continue to be a presence at the Refuge, as he has taken on the job of managing its gift shop. The Friends of Tamarac Board of Directors was the driving force behind the creation of Tamarac’s new Discovery Center, which opened to the public for the first time last June.
