“They (Goodneighbors Properties) feel the final design fits well with the character of both the former Hatchery buildings and the downtown Battle Lake area,” said Battle Lake Economic Development Director Val Martin. “The final floor plan will feature 15 to 20 apartments and 12,000 to 15,000 square feet of commercial space.”
The Detroit Lakes Development Authority took no action at its April 5 meeting on the proposed redevelopment north of Highway 10, east of Washington Avenue. The authority made an unsuccessful offer to purchase the Goodin Company property on Davis Avenue, and was also unsuccessful in its request for a Right of First Refusal agreement with Becker County for the highway department complex in that area.
Members of the Detroit Lakes Development Authority discussed expanding the North Industrial Park on Richwood Road with a $2.5 million street and utility project during their most recent meeting on Feb. 1. The project would stretch from Hawk Street to Terry Street along Cormorant Avenue and provide the city with 13 more industrial sized lots to add to the park.
Owners of Lakecrest Resort in Detroit Lakes have received unanimous approval from the city Planning Commission to turn the resort's 18 cabins into buyer-owned housing units. The preliminary plat, corresponding rezoning and variances will make their way to the community development committee next, before a meeting of the full city council on Feb. 8.
