LuAnn Porter, executive director of United Way of Becker County, announced she will be stepping down as executive director of the organization on Dec. 16, which will cap a 32-year career with the non-profit. She will be succeeded by Terry Haus, a former United Way board president and longtime volunteer with the organization.
More than 800 people attended the United Way Community Celebration on Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Detroit Lakes Pavilion. The 17th annual event at the Detroit Lakes Pavilion was the kickoff to the United Way of Becker County's 2022 fundraising campaign, which aims to raise $250,000 in support of the United Way's 32 partner programs and agencies.
The United Way invites the communities of Becker County to come to the Detroit Lakes Pavilion this Thursday, Sept. 22 for its 17th Annual Community Celebration, which runs from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
The United Way of Becker County's annual "Celebration of Heroes" on Thursday, April 28 recognized Detroit Lakes student Hannah Barberg and Frazee-Vergas teacher Molly Fairbanks as "Everyday Heroes," county museum director Becky Mitchell and Meadowland Surveying's Scott and Tiffiny Walz for their "Community Spirit," and Midwest Bank's Jessica Burhans for her "commitment to community, compassion and service combined with extraordinary leadership," as the recipient of this year's Bob and Michelle Harris Award.
