Aug. 24, 1933-Nov. 25, 2008 Robert R. Holmer, 75, of Frazee, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at St. Mary's Innovis hospital in Detroit Lakes. Robert R. Holmer was born to Harry and Elizabeth Holmer on Aug. 24, 1933 in Frazee. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Evergreen at the time of his death.
Kathleen A. Coleman, 55, of Minneapolis, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at her home. Kathleen was the "mother hen" of the Coleman family; the glue that kept the family together. Employed by Qwest for 25 years, Kathleen was a former president of the CWA Local 7200.
Abigail Grace was born to Blake and Connie (Hankiewicz) Fingalson on Jan. 16, 2007 at St. Mary's Innovis Health of Detroit Lakes. Abbie was mom and dad's little princess. She loved to sing and dance, often wearing her "princess"-like dresses and shoes along with her crown and boa. She loved having mom apply her lipstick and nail polish.
Aug. 6, 1922-Nov. 23, 2008 Norris G. Grefsrud, 86, of Hawley, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, in the Veteran's Administation Center, Fargo. Norris was born to Gustav and Martina (Bratlien) Grefsrud on Aug. 6, 1922, in Hawley. He grew up and attended rural country school near Hawley. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II, and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. Norris married Muriel Nelson on April 14, 1951 in Hawley. Following their marriage, they farmed near Hawley.
Oct. 24, 1942-Nov. 23, 2008 James L. "Jim" Johnson, 66, of Hawley, died Sunday, November 23, 2008, in Hawley. James was born to Kenneth and Shirley (Hanks) Johnson on Oct. 24, 1942 in Detroit Lakes, where he grew up and attended school. He was employed as a well driller for LTP Enterprises until 1985. He then worked for Lesmeister Flying Service, retiring in 2006.
Florence Miller, 85, of Mahnomen, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 in her home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, with a prayer service and rosary at 7 p.m., and will continue for one hour prior to mass on Wednesday at the church. A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Beaulieu, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home of Mahnomen and Winger, Minn.
Nov. 13, 1907-Nov. 23, 2008 Susan L. Krogen, 101, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Susan L. Ost was born to Albert and Eva Gerber Ost on Nov. 13, 1907 in Napoleon, N.D. She grew up on a farm near Napoleon and attended school there, graduating from Napoleon High School. She then attended Bismarck Business College. Susan married Christ Sayler and they made their home in Red Oak, Iowa, where they owned and operated a grocery store. Later they moved to Callaway, where they farmed.
Oct. 14, 1923-Nov. 21, 2008 Former Frazee resident Ruth L. Rethwisch, 85, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, November 21, 2008 at Innovis Health in Fargo. Ruth Leona Illg was born to Robert and Leona (Kadolph) Illg on Oct. 14, 1923 in Silver Leaf Township, rural Frazee. She was educated at District 85 rural school in Silver Leaf Township. Following her schooling, she moved to St. Paul, where she worked as a nanny and as a waitress for the Roman Café. Ruth married Henry E. Rethwisch on June 17, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee.
Sept. 29, 1927-Nov. 23, 2008 Ione O. Larson, 81, of Lake Park, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2008, at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Ione was born to Elmer and Evelyn (Loe) Hagen on Sept. 29, 1927, in Northwood, N.D., where she grew up and attended rural country school. On June 20, 1954, she married Lloyd Larson in Northwood. Together, they farmed and raised their six children in rural Lake Park. In 1977, they retired from farming and moved in to Lake Park.
Sept. 24, 1921-Nov. 18, 2008 Former Fargo resident Peter Hilleboe, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes. Peter Stuart Hilleboe was born to Christian and Mabel (Johnson) Hilleboe on Sept. 24, 1921 in Minneapolis. He graduated from NDAC (now North Dakota State University) in 1943. He then served with the U.S. Navy, 1943-46. Following his discharge, he attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where he earned a master's degree in economics. Peter married Sally Fleck in 1946.
