A Waubun woman was injured Monday evening when her car rolled on Highway 113 in Little Elbow Township, Mahnomen County. Ellora Blue Accobee, 20, of Waubun suffered non life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol. She was wearing a seatbelt, and the airbag did not deploy. She was not taken to a hospital. She was westbound on highway 113 in a 2003 Kia Sorento and came into a curve too fast. The car left the roadway on the north side, went down a steep ditch, and rolled.

A Fargo man was injured when the semi he was driving ended up in the ditch, as he tried to avoid another semi that was fishtailing on Highway 9 near Borup early Monday morning. Rigoberto Ochoa, 60, of Fargo suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, according to the State Patrol. He was wearing a seatbelt. No airbags deployed.
The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Lakeland Unit 31 of Detroit Lakes, gave some holiday cheer to veterans when it presented the VA Medical Center in Fargo with approximately four dozen neck and heart pillows, of various designs, to be given to patients in the cardiac and medical wards. The pillows were sewn and filled by Charlotte Olson, Arvona Heck, and Nadine Harris.
Mitchell Lee Mehrer, 38, of rural Detroit Lakes has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony bad check. According to court records, on June 5 he allegedly wrote a $1,153 check to Menards in Detroit Lakes for payment of merchandise. The check was returned for nonsufficient funds on Oct. 9. Menards mailed a notice of dishonored check to him, but the check had not been made good at the time the charge was filed.
Ariana-Lei Phillip Poitra, 18, of Frazee has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime. According to court records, on Nov. 21 she was arrested on an active warrant at a Frazee apartment building. She was allegedly found to have 2.15 grams of meth in a blue pouch. Poitra appeared in court Nov. 26 before District Judge Galen Vaa, who set cash bail at $100 or bond at $1,000, with conditions, or bond at $4,000 without standard conditions of release.
Joseph William Fernholz, 32, of Frazee has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony domestic assault by strangulation, gross misdemeanor interrupting a 911 emergency call, and misdemeanor domestic assault. According to court records, on Nov. 24 he allegedly assaulted his wife in Frazee, smashing her cell phone when she tried to call for help, and pushing her onto a bed and choking her with his hands until she couldn't breathe and grew dizzy. He then let her go and allegedly punched her in the eye. A neighbor helped her contact police.
One woman was injured when five-vehicles crashed outside of Wadena Saturday just before noon. Janice A. Roers, 70, Wadena, was traveling east on Highway 10 exiting Wadena in a 2008 Pontiac Vibe. She stopped to make a left turn into the Terry Motel when she was struck from behind by a Uhaul driven by Brian J. Schanil, 60, Warren. The Uhaul pushed the Pontiac into the westbound lanes, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.
All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2019 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. in the Holy Rosary School Gymnasium, 1043 Lake Ave., Detroit Lakes.
Daryl Wayne Moran Jr., 37, of rural Ponsford has been charged in Becker County District Court with two counts of felony DWI, a gross misdemeanor charge of driving after his license was canceled, and a misdemeanor charge of fleeing a police officer on foot.
