Several staff members have been promoted and hired at Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corp. (MMCDC) and its affiliate company, the White Earth Investment Initiative (WEII), according to a news release: • Christine Clark has been promoted to MMCDC Chief Financial Officer. She graduated Cum Laude from Moorhead State University-Moorhead in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting Finance and Economics.
Laura Boreen is the new executive director for Pelican Landing, an assisted-living facility scheduled for a fall opening in Detroit Lakes. Boreen started in her new role June 17. For the past five years, she was human resources director at Ecumen. Before that, Boreen had been resident services director at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park. She earned her bachelor's degree in health care management from the University of Minnesota Crookston, and is a licensed nursing home administrator.
Detroit Lakes-based Lakeshirts/Blue 84, which produces apparel, headwear and stickers for resorts and universities, has been accredited for its social compliance program by the Fair Labor Association, according to a news release. The accreditation comes following an extensive review of the company's supply chain labor practices, according to the release. Lakeshirts has been an FLA affiliate since 2010 and began its implementation period for FLA accreditation implementation in 2012. The FLA report noted Lakeshirts' strengths:
Cindi Hayden has joined Northwestern Bank as Universal Banker, according to a news release. In her new role, Hayden will help open Northwestern Bank's new Detroit Lakes location, and assist customers with accounts and loans. From Fairmount, N.D., Hayden earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She has worked with Western State Bank and Bremer Bank. Hayden moved to the Detroit Lakes area in 2013 where she lives with her husband and daughter.

On 06-09-14, the Detroit Lakes Police Department was informed that Level 3 Predatory Offender Robert Thomas Baca, age 48, had absconded from the MN Department of Corrections house in the 300 block of Summit Avenue in Detroit Lakes. Baca was reported to have last been seen around noon on Saturday June 7, 2014 in Detroit Lakes. Baca is on Intense Supervised Release through the Department of Corrections. He was convicted of 2nd Degree Criminal Sexual in 1997 and has convictions for violations of Minnesota’s predatory offender laws in 2008 and 2010.
