Jennifer Nelson, of Fridley, was the winner of the 2019 Great American Think-Off, the Cultural Center in New York Mills said. Nelson came out on top of the June 8 debate among four armchair philosophers in New York Mills during the 27th annual Think-Off. During the debate, the four finalists argued their side of the question, "To vote or not to vote: does it matter?" Moderator Ashley Hanson guided the debate with questions from the Think-Off committee and the live audience.
The Cultural Center in New York Mills will host Finnish fiddlers Teho this Thursday, June 13 in its listening space, starting at 7:30 p.m. Teho is a fiddling duo from Finland featuring Tero Hyvaluoma and Esko Järvelä, top-notch names in the Nordic folk music field and cross-over freelancers without genre boundaries. They have played together for years in various different bands and projects, including the long-running and popular Finnish band Frigg.
PERHAM — Youth Actively Restoring Debt (YARD) is a community service program for juvenile offenders sentenced to hours of work in the community. The County Probation Department in conjunction with local judges and fitness coaches are piloting the program at two locations. The goal is to encourage juveniles who come to Court with charges of tobacco, vaping, drugs and alcohol to make better decisions by participating in healthy behaviors.
The Kaddatz Galleries, Otter Tail County Solid Waste, The Spot and Springboard for the Arts are teaming up to host the first ever Trashion Fashion show in Otter Tail County. The event will be held on April 27 in honor of Earth Day.
