In September, the Mahnomen-Waubun co-op decided on a nickname and team colors. Now, the Thunderbirds have a logo. The new logo is attached, but the light blue will be teal. Designer Dayton Berreth could not do teal with the program used to create the logo. The Mahnomen-Waubun co-op begins in the winter high school season and will be in all sports for the 2018-19 school year.

Nick Dehler captured the Men’s Club tournament title at Maple Hills Golf Course shooting a net score of 61.8. Jordan Priem was the medalist with a round of 74. Len Hanson (62.4), Kyle Kieselhorst (65.6), Brian Petz (68.6), Dan Sprague (69) and Gerry Martin (69.4) posted other low scores. Kieselhorst was the runner-up to Priem with a 78; Aaron Cumming shot a third place score fo 79.

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes jumped ahead early and held on by the skin of their teeth, earning a 4-3 victory over the Hadley Buttermakers in the Class C Baseball Tournament at Green Isle on Aug. 26. However, luck wasn’t on the side of the Midway Snurdbirds as their bid for a Class C Championship came to a halt when they were defeated, 6-4, by the Faribault Lakers on Aug. 26 in Green Isle.

Team Zorbaz captured the Women’s softball championship Tuesday, Aug. 22 defeating Noah’s Insurance in a wild 22-21 game. Zorbaz handed Noah’s Insurance their only loss of the season with the victory.
The Detroit Lakes/Callaway softball team won the championship of the upper division of the Seniors Softball Tournament held at Snappy Park August 21-22. The annual event is hosted by a group from Winnipeg, Manitoba, which brought three full bus loads of players, fans, umpires and organizers from Canada to play softball against teams in the lakes area.
