Wednesday night, the lakes area curled up cozy as one of the coldest nights of the year passed by.
Temperatures were as low as -30 overnight, said Carl Jones from the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, N.D. In northwestern Minnesota the wind chill value reached 50 below.
The Detroit Lakes area is under a wind chill warning until noon today.
Temperatures will fluctuate over the next several days, Jones said, but it won’t get nearly as frigid as it did Wednesday night.

It should stay below zero for the rest of today, with wind chill values pulling down to below 30 again tonight, he said. Friday, we should expect temps to reach into the teens.
Another cold front is forecasted for Sunday; however the temperatures won’t be so cold, and the wind won’t be so bad.
